Romney Road

Project Type:

New Build

Location:

Brighton

Project Description

Romney Road located in Sussex is a new build three-bed eco dwelling inspired by the local vernacular architecture & its surroundings. The brief was for a modernistic Mediterranean-influenced style that evoked Ibiza.

The house mimics the distinctive sharp edges and stylised, geometric, and decorative details of iconic art deco architecture, of which many examples can be found in the local area. The material palette comes from the common use of white render in the local area, with a feature split-faced stone to draw some texture reminiscent of the nearby Telscombe chalk cliffs.

The site was constrained by close proximity of other buildings, so the design needed to be carefully thought out to avoid overlooking, whilst at the same time achieving a view of the sea due to its sea proximity. The property was designed as an eco-house following the ‘fabric first’ principle, consisting of high levels of airtightness and an air source heat pump coupled with water-saving efficiency measures.

For this project we have completed the RIBA Stages 1-4.

Stage 1 - Preparation & Brief

Stage 2 - Concept Design

Stage 3 - Spatial Coordination

Stage 4 - Technical Design
