Moon Tree

Project Type:

Extension, Retrofit

Location:

West Sussex

Project Description

This project is situated in a countryside area of Sussex and is a two-storey property with a front and rear extension, and two new outbuildings. The existing property was deemed to be of no architectural merit by the Council's conservation officer who welcomed the clever transformation scheme of an uninspiring building.

For this project we took an unsightly shallow bungalow and turned it into a very large glamorous modern house. The outbuilding was constructed first to try out new building techniques and provided a temporary home for the client while the main build took place. High insulated, the main building featuring the front house extension and rear extension has a ground source heat pump, high-performance doors and windows, and water-saving measures. The utmost detail and care have been taken to utilise locally available materials and an honest colour pallet, to produce a design that works as part of the surrounding context and is built to Passive House principles.

For this project we have completed the RIBA Stages 1-4.

Stage 1 - Preparation & Brief

Stage 2 - Concept Design

Stage 3 - Spatial Coordination

Stage 4 - Technical Design
