Albourne Court

Project Type:

New Build

Location:

Sussex

Project Description

The client brief was for a new sustainable office building 3 miles from Hassocks mainline station located in Sussex. The site used to host redundant agricultural barns, which Planning supported converting into offices. The project is situated on a site with 3 sides facing open fields, but is very close to a listed building, so the arrangement of the buildings had to be carefully considered for the setting of the heritage asset.

The design encourages good natural ventilation that works in conjunction with the stack effect and high-level windows. The building is divided up into several different individual units, with each unit being self-contained to ensure maximum individual control and reduce energy consumption. The design is a classic energy-efficient asymmetrical design, crafted to be naturally ventilated with wind catcher-style upper roofs.

Bike stores provide secure cycle parking with showers in every unit to encourage travel to work by bike. The new building has good lighting and insulation, with a portion of the building's energy coming from renewable sources, making it an environmentally sustainable workplace.

For this project we have completed the RIBA Stages 1-4.

Stage 1 - Preparation & Brief

Stage 2 - Concept Design

Stage 3 - Spatial Coordination

Stage 4 - Technical Design
