Bringing the outside in…

The extension and retro-fit of this property was very much client driven. We acted mainly as enablers to realise the vision of our forward thinking employer, to achieve their end goal of improving their relationship with the external landscape.

Our client is a highly motivated landscape architect who was keen to work closely with us on developing inspiring geometry to create a launching platform for the redesign and development of a contemporary garden.

The property backs onto a busy road, so the extension has been designed to form a acoustic shade. Its curved form is a reference to acoustic attenuation devices, which as a by-product allows the new glazed bi-folding doors to face due south.

It is often tempting to increase a properties footprint when designing an extension. We developed a brief to avoid this risk, by minimising the extensions affect on the garden and reworking the internal layout. This has lead to our clients family finding themselves being naturally more social, this ais addressing sustainability on the most fundamental level.
